Owls Wins Five Medals, Sweeps Men’s High Jump Podium at CUSA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Kennesaw State track and field collected five medals Friday on the second day of the CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
 
The Owls swept the podium in the men's high jump. It marked the first time in CUSA history that three athletes from the same school finished 1-2-3 in the event.
 
Gage Voyles cleared 2.27m (7-5.25). The mark set a school record and ranks second in the NCAA this season. It also is tied for the second-highest winning clearance in CUSA Championship history.
 
Kenyatta Bennett earned the silver medal with a personal-best clearance of 2.18m (7-1.75). That mark ranks No. 11 in the NCAA this season.
 
Chance Cross cleared 2.03m (6-8) to secure the bronze medal.
 
Keira Hight graduated from Kennesaw State on Tuesday. On Friday, she won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00m (13-1.50).
 
The KSU men are in second place with 77 points. Liberty leads the men's standings with 128 points after Day 2. FIU tops the women's standings with 75.5 points, while KSU sits in third place with 48 points.

 
Men's Recap
Ricky Robbins (16.74m| 54-11.25) and Braden Garrison (16.59m | 54-5.25) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put to collect nine points for KSU.
 
Edwin Kiprono qualified for the 800m final with a time of 1:51.99.
 
Cameron Guadiano (53.17 seconds), Marion Clark (53.08) and Josh Jones (54.33) advanced to Saturday's final in the 400m hurdles.
 
Chance Cross (20.79) and Pishon Hughton (21.01) advanced to the 200m final.
 
Kaelen Garrity finished fifth with 6,297 points in his first collegiate decathlon.

 
Women's Recap
Amelia Coker scored a personal-best 4,894 points to finish fifth in the heptathlon.
 
Morgan Pepe cleared 4.00 meters (13-1.50) to place fifth in the pole vault on attempts.
 
Madison Seiler finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:17.49.
 
In the 800m preliminaries, Emma Sullivan secured a spot in the final with a time of 2:07.85.
 
KSU advanced two women to the 400m hurdles final: Amelia Coker (1:02.17) and Alina Harris (1:02.88).
 
Samiya Wayne ran 23.81 in the 200m to earn the fifth seed in Saturday's final.
 

Next Up
The Owls will compete on the final day of the CUSA Outdoor Championships beginning at noon Saturday, May 16.
