KNOXVILLE, Tenn – Facing the country's best pitching staff that allowed just over one run a game, Kennesaw State softball scored five runs against No. 10 Tennessee. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Owls fell 13-5 in the Volunteer State.
The five runs were tied for the second-most allowed by the Lady Vols this season. Hannah Harvey had a multi-hit game while Ana Gore led the team with two RBI.
How It Happened
The Owls took the early lead courtesy of Harvey. The third baseman went opposite field for a double then moved the remaining 120 feet due to heads-up base running.
Tennessee quickly took the lead in the next frame. A two-run homer and a double made it 3-1. Four more runs made it a six-run game after the third inning.
In the fifth, the Owls rattled off four runs to keep the game alive. After the first two batters moved into scoring position, Harvey beat out an infield single to bring home one runner. Macie Howes then smacked an RBI double over the left fielder's head. Nearly the same play happened the next pitch when Gore cleared the bases to make it 9-5.
The Lady Vols got those runs back and the game ended 13-5.
