KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State University had more than 25 student-athletes give back to the community in KSU's Day of Service benefiting extra special people (esp) in VyStar Arena at the KSU Convocation Center. For four hours, athletes and student volunteers engaged esp members in interactive activities including kickball, basketball, and creative craft sessions.
The event was designed to provide meaningful recreation and respite care for individuals with special needs and their families. esp, a nonprofit organization whose mission is "to create transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families, changing communities for the better," praised the exceptional effort and engagement demonstrated throughout the day.
"We served 26 individual esp members and provided three and a half hours of respite time for those families," said Taylor Shannon, esp Atlanta programs coordinator. "I cannot express enough how incredible all the athletes and student volunteers were. We truly saw some of the best engagement I have ever seen from some of our friends who attended."
This event exhibits Kennesaw State's commitment to community service and develop champions on the field, in the classroom, in life, and in the community. By bringing together student-athletes from multiple sports like women's tennis, women's lacrosse, women's basketball, and women's soccer, KSU showed the power of athletics to create positive impact beyond competition. The students' enthusiasm and genuine care left a lasting impression on the esp community.
