KENNESAW, Ga. — Kennesaw State women's tennis looks to extend its seven-match winning streak with two matches versus No. 58 South Alabama and at Lipscomb, March 20 and 22.
After an 0-3 start to the season, KSU has bounced back in a big way with seven consecutive wins starting Feb. 18 at Troy. During the win streak, the Owls are outscoring their opponents by a combined 31-10. Seven straight wins is tied for the third-longest streak in program history. KSU won a record nine consecutive matches from January 14 to March 8, 2022.
The Owls' most recent wins include a historic first in a 4-3 win versus Virginia Tech and a 4-1 defeat of Mercer in Macon. KSU's win over the Hokies marked the program's first all-time victory over a power conference opponent.
The Owls are 16-11 (.593) in doubles play on the season, with
Ema Baraniakova and
Sofia Madrid a team-best 6-3. Freshmen
Maria Ivankovic and
Irene Serrano Maestre are 4-2 in line-three doubles, including wins in three straight matches. KSU is 29-23 (.558) in singles behind five straight wins from Madrid and
Terezia Baraniakova's four consecutive. Baraniakova is 5-0 on line six this season, good for a team-best 6-1 singles record.
SERIES HISTORY
KSU and South Alabama meet for the third time on Friday, with the Owls looking for their first win in the series after a 3-4 defeat last season. Sunday's match in Nashville marks the 16
th all-time meeting between KSU and Lipscomb. The Owls lead the series, 8-7, with the 15 prior meetings coming as ASUN foes.
KNOW THE FOE
South Alabama has won 10 straight to start the season on its way to ranking No. 58 in this week's ITA poll. The Jaguars most recently won a pair of road matches at Elon (4-3) on March 11 and at Campbell (5-1) on March 13. A season ago, the Jaguars finished third in the Sun Belt with a 14-5 (7-3) record.
Lipscomb (7-6) is coming off a 7-0 win at Belmont on March 15, but has lost three of its last five. The Bisons went 13-7 (6-3) and finished fourth in the ASUN in 2025.
