WILMINGTON, N.C. – A four-run first inning by George Washington lifted the Revs past Kennesaw State softball, 7-3. The Owls went 1-3 in the UNCW Tournament, defeating the host Seahawks on Saturday.
Macie Howes and
Jojo Johnson each recorded a hit with an RBI in today's contest.
How It Happened
The Revs hung four runs in the first thanks to mistakes by the Owls. After the first three batters reached base safely, a walk and a hit by pitch back-to-back gave GW its first two runs of the afternoon. An error by
Ava Guzowski added two more.
KSU clawed its way back, bringing the game within one by the top of the third. Johnson recorded her first RBI of the season. Howes singled into left-center field and after an error by the Revs, two scored to make it a 4-3 game.
With bases loaded, the Owls had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the fourth but grounded out to end the inning.
In the following frame, GW extended their lead.
Rylee Limberger allowed the first two batters to get on and was pulled for
Taylor Daniel. Reese Ferrell bunted for a three-run inside-the-park homer.
Daniel's outing was short-lived as she was pulled for
Leah Jannakos in the fifth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jannakos induced a fly out and punched out the final two batters to escape the inning.
The Owls had a chance in the top sixth with the bases loaded but couldn't capitalize.
