KENNESAW, Ga. — Kennesaw State men's tennis seeks to extend its three-match road winning streak when it faces UNC Asheville and VCU on Feb. 27 and March 1.
LAST TIME OUT
KSU overcame a Friday weather delay to retain its lead and finish off Georgia Southern in a 4-2 win on Feb. 21 in Statesboro.
Prior to the suspension of play on Friday, KSU gave itself a 2-0 cushion with the doubles point and a singles point courtesy of
Dominic Ducariu.
Leon Peranovic and
Nathan Walters earned a 6-4 win on court two.
Xavi Ferrer and
Anthony Weingarten then finished the job in doubles with a 7-5 victory on three.
Ducariu took his No. 4 singles match in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) for the two-score lead. Georgia Southern won on courts five and six to square the match 2-2, but Weingarten and Peranovic finished the day strong to send the Owls home winners.
Weingarten outdueled the Eagles' Edoardo Santoni 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 on three. Peranovic then clinched on two with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3 win over Albert Saar.
The Owls are now two-for-two in matches this season versus their in-state rivals. KSU defeated Georgia State 5-2 in Kennesaw on Feb. 8.
PROMISING START
Freshmen Peranovic, Walters and Ducariu each hold winning records in singles play just eight matches into their collegiate careers.
Peranovic is 6-2 and the winner of four straight matches. The freshman from Hanover, Germany, went 5-2 on line three before winning his debut match at No. 2 singles against Georgia Southern. Walters is 6-2 on court five while Ducariu is 5-2 on four with back-to-back wins.
SERIES HISTORY
KSU and UNC Asheville meet for the fifth time on Friday. The Owls are 3-1 against the Bulldogs and winners of three straight, including a 5-2 decision in Kennesaw in 2025.
Sunday's match marks KSU's first-ever visit to VCU and the second all-time meeting in the series. The Rams defeated the Owls, 5-2, in Kennesaw last season.
