A Look Back...
Kennesaw State opened the 2026 season with an unbeaten home stand, defeating Evansville, Marshall and West Georgia. The Owls scored 30 runs on 33 hits over the first three games while allowing just 13 earned runs on 19 hits.
Freshman Grayson McCollum shined in his first collegiate action, going 7-for-12 (.583) with six runs scored, four RBIs and two walks. Outfielder Cooper Williams also impressed at the plate, going 6-for-13 (.462) with three doubles and a home run. He added two walks and posted a team-best 1.456 OPS.
Pitching was a strength throughout the opening stretch, as KSU compiled a 4.33 ERA over 21 innings, striking out 26 and holding opponents to a .196 batting average.
The Owls struck out just once during their 9-4 win over West Georgia, marking the fewest punch outs in a game since April 7, 2023, against Austin Peay.
Despite a furious ninth-inning rally on Sunday, KSU was swept by 12th-ranked Florida in Gainesville. The Owls scored nine runs on ten hits in the loss, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate as part of a four-run ninth inning. Williams recorded KSU's second three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI.
Last Time We Saw the Eagles...
Kennesaw State downed Georgia Southern, 6-4, on May 13, 2025, to split the season series. The Owls jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run home run off the bat of Donovan Cash in the home half of the opening frame, but the Eagles responded to tie the game in the third inning. Cash put KSU back in control of the game with his second three-run homer of the day, giving the Owls a 6-3 lead after four innngs.
Five KSU pitchers saw action in the victory, with Smith Pinson earning the win after allowing just one run in 3.2 innings of middle-inning relief.
