GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Kennesaw State dropped a back-and-forth affair to No. 12 Florida, 12-9, on Sunday afternoon at Condron Ballpark.
The Owls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning, thanks to RBI knocks by Cooper Williams, Jackson Chirello and Charlie Jones. The Gators fought back to take the lead before KSU pulled back in front with a two-run fifth inning, sending eight men to the plate by working five walks. Florida jumped back in front with a four-run sixth inning and would not relinquish the lead.
How it Happened
- T1 | A leadoff single by Trenton Lyons set the table for the Owls, who scored three runs in the frame. Williams scored Lyons with an RBI triple to right field before Chirello singled to score Williams. A laser RBI single by Jones scored Chirello to cap off the inning (3-0, Kennesaw State).
- B2 | The Gators plated two runs on one hit to pull within a run (3-2, Kennesaw State).
- B3 | Consecutive walks to open the inning allowed the Gators to manufacture a run to tie the game (3-3).
- B4 | The leadoff hitter was hit by a pitch, finding his way around the bases to give Florida its first lead of the game (4-3, Florida).
- T5 | Kennesaw State retook the lead, scoring two runs thanks to four walks and a wild pitch on a strikeout (5-4, Kennesaw State).
- B5 | After hitting a leadoff double, a passed ball and RBI groundout allowed the Gators to even the score (5-5).
- B6 | Florida regained control of the lead, adding four runs on three hits (9-5, Florida).
- B7 | Florida added a couple insurance runs on a hit and subsequent throwing error (11-5, Florida).
- B8 | An RBI double plated the Gators final run of the day (12-5, Florida).
- T9 | A Kennesaw State rally fell short as seven Owls reached base, scoring four runs, but ultimately, it was not enough (12-9, Florida).
