Five Owls Earn Conference USA Athlete of the Week Awards

DALLAS — Five members of the Kennesaw State track and field teams earned Conference USA Track and Field Athletes of the Week honors for their performances at the Orange and Purple Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
 

Eric Young II was named the CUSA Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The senior finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.06 seconds, which ranks second in program history and was just 0.01 seconds off the school record. The mark currently ranks 21st in the NCAA and second in CUSA this season. Young defeated runners from Clemson, Georgia Tech and Alabama, among others. He also returned to run a leg on the Owls' 4x400-meter relay, which finished ahead of Clemson, Georgia Tech and Alabama. The relay time set a new school record and ranks first in CUSA and 24th in the NCAA this season.
 

Gage Voyles was named CUSA Men's Freshman of the Week after winning the high jump. He cleared a personal-best height of 2.12 meters (6'11.5"), edging teammate Kenyatta Bennett on attempts. Voyles recorded victories over jumpers from Tennessee and Clemson. His mark ranks first in CUSA and 36th in the NCAA this season.
 

Emma Ferguson earned CUSA Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors. The junior placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:45.61, which ranks first in CUSA and 10th in program history.
 

Victoria Joyce was named the CUSA Women's Field Athlete of the Week. She broke the Kennesaw State triple jump record with a leap of 12.66 meters (41'6"), surpassing the previous mark by six inches. Joyce placed fifth in the event. Her jump ranks first in CUSA and 49th in the NCAA this season.
 

Natalie Harris collected CUSA Women's Freshman of the Week honors. She placed 16th in a highly competitive 60-meter hurdles field with a time of 8.58 seconds. Harris posted a time of 8.48 seconds in the preliminary round, which is the top time in CUSA this season.
 

Up Next
The Owls will compete in a split weekend Friday and Saturday. Most of the team will travel to Louisville for the Lenny Lyles Invitational, while distance runners head to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
