Cross Wins 60m at Samford Invitational Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Kennesaw State's Chance Cross recorded the first victory of his senior season Friday at the Samford Invitational, winning the men's 60-meter final in a season-best 6.64 seconds at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Cross was one of 28 Owls sprinters, hurdlers and multi-event athletes who competed Friday in Birmingham.

Men's recap
Cross posted 6.68-second time in the preliminary round to advance to the final. Eric Young II claimed the final qualifying spot with a time of 6.86 seconds and improved to 6.80 in the final to finish sixth.

Young II also qualified for the 200-meter final later in the day and placed second with a time of 21.25 seconds. That mark currently ranks No. 19 in the NCAA this season.

Mohamed Diaby finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.00 seconds.

In the 400 meters, Pishon Haughton placed sixth in 48.40 seconds, while Trey Geter finished seventh in 48.57 in their season-opening races.

Women's recap
The sprint trio of Kenadie Singleton, Samiya Wayne and Ebony Whyte finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 60-meter final with times of 7.49, 7.53 and 7.54 seconds.

Freshman Natalie Harris led Kennesaw State in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.62 seconds. She was joined in the final by fellow freshman Tickia Sutton (8.64) and Madison Maxey
(8.78).

Eliana Mbadinga recorded the Owls' top women's finish of the meet, placing second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.49 seconds.
