WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – Hunter Gillard led the Kennesaw State men's golf team through the opening 18 holes of the J.T. Poston Invitational on Sunday at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club.
The Owls shot a 3-under-par 277 and are tied for fourth place with Virginia Tech and UT Rio Grande Valley.
Gillard carded a 3-under 67, making six birdies and 10 pars in his first round of the season.
Shaun Cook birdied two of his final three holes to post a 2-under 68. He is tied for seventh.
Kyle Bachkosky is tied for 20th after playing his final nine holes at 1-under to finish with an even-par 70.
Walker Gantt shot a 2-over 72 and is tied for 63rd, along with teammate Luca Gallingani, who posted a 74.
Competing as an individual, Reed Sweigart recorded a 7-over 77 and is tied for 82nd.
Kennesaw State continues play in the second round on Monday, Sept. 15.
