DALLAS –Ema Baraniakova, Sofia Madrid and Che Nel of the Kennesaw State women's tennis team collected Conference USA postseason honors on Tuesday, the league announced.
Baraniakova earned a First Team All-Conference selection for singles. Baraniakova and Madrid were named to the First Team All-Conference doubles squad. Nel was named to the All-Freshman team.
Barnaiakova led the Owls with a 9-4 record. Her wins came over Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State, Sam Houston, Mercer, Alabama State, UAB, MTSU and Liberty. She went 6-0 over her final seven matches that were completed. The sophomore picked up three wins against CUSA opponents in Sam Houston, MTSU and Liberty.
"Ema is as deserving a player as they come for this award," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "She was a rock for us at the top of the lineup all year long. After a very strong freshman season, Ema improved a lot over this past year, and we fully expect her to keep getting better."
Baraniakova and Madrid led the Owls with an 11-2 record. The duo picked up wins over Stetson, Troy, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, Georgia State, Western Carolina, Sam Houston, Mercer, Alabama State, UAB and Liberty. The duo played all their matches at No. 1 doubles. They closed the season winning their final six matches together.
"Ema and Sofia had a tremendous year at #1 doubles, which is not easy to do in general, but especially the way the scoring format is set up in college doubles," Emery added. "Their consistent success is a testament to how ready to play there were every single time they stepped on the court."
Nel entered KSU in January. She won three matches in singles over Miami, Georgia State and Alabama State. She was a part of a doubles team that picked up victories over Stetson, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Alabama State.
"Che had a great freshman season for us. It's not always easy to come in January and get thrown right into the season. On top of that, she was out for over four weeks just as she was gaining momentum in the middle of the semester. To handle all of that, especially as a 17 year old first-semester freshman, is a testament to her character and competitiveness. Che absolutely has a very bright future here at KSU."
The Owls will return in August to begin prep for the 2025-26 season.
