ROME, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's tennis standouts Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid competed in the RTC Collegiate Invite over the weekend, earning several strong results to close out their fall slate.

Baraniakova posted a pair of victories in singles play, while Madrid picked up an impressive win on Sunday to highlight the Owls' weekend at the ITA Tennis Center.

On Friday, Baraniakova dropped a hard-fought opening match against LSU's Alexia Marginean, 1-6, 6-7, before rebounding with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Artemis Aslanisvili of Clemson.

Baraniakova carried that momentum into Saturday, defeating Mary Grace Rennard of North Carolina, 6-2, 6-3. Madrid opened her weekend with a 3-6, 2-6 loss to Ece Gencer of Purdue.

In Sunday's final day of competition, Baraniakova fell to Addison Lanton of LSU, 4-6, 1-6, while Madrid capped the tournament on a high note with a come-from-behind victory over Maya Bordereau of Wisconsin, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.

"I was happy with our results this weekend," said assistant coach Taylor Dean. "Ema showed great resilience, bouncing back from a tough loss on Friday morning to earn an impressive win in the afternoon against a player who's been ranked inside the top 125. Sofia also displayed grit and determination, coming from a set down to win on Sunday. I'm really proud of the fight and leadership both of our upperclassmen showed, and I'm excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds for them."
