FROM THE THROWER'S CAGE
Former Owl and current assistant coach Daniel Haugh will compete in the qualification round of the hammer throw at the 2024 Olympics on Friday, August 2 at 4:10 a.m. ET.
Haugh will compete in a field of 32 in the qualifying round. To advance to the final, he will need to hit the Olympic standard or finish in the top 12 overall. The final is set for Sunday, August 4 at 2:30 p.m. ET. Watch the event by clicking here.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
» Haugh qualified for the Olympics by finishing first at the U.S. Olympic Trials on June 20 with a season-best mark of 79.51m (260'10").
» He currently ranks sixth in the world and first in the United States in the hammer throw.
» He finished 11th in the hammer throw at the 2020 Olympics.
» He won the National Championship in the hammer throw in 2019 as an Owl. He competed at the 2019, 2022 and 2023 World Championships.
» He is the first former student-athlete in KSU history in the Division I era to qualify for the Olympics. Colleen Thorburn Smith played softball for the Owls from 1992-95 and represented Canada at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
