Conference USA Reveals 2024-25 Women's Basketball Slate

7/11/2024 2:00:00 PM

DALLAS - Conference USA revealed the 2024-25 women's basketball league slate Thursday afternoon ahead of Kennesaw State's inaugural season as a member of the conference and fourth year under head coach Octavia Blue.

The 18-game CUSA slate features renewed rivalries against Liberty and Jacksonville State and brings new opponents to the KSU Convocation Center including Western Kentucky, UTEP, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston.

"I am excited and thankful for AD Milton Overton, our administration and President Kathy Schwaig for solidifying our future," Blue said. "It's an exciting time for Kennesaw State women's basketball and an even more exciting time for our fans. Competing in CUSA gives us the opportunity to play top, high-level opponents week-in and week-out. It makes for an exciting home schedule every single year."

A season ago, Blue became the fastest KSU WBB head coach to 30 Division I wins and led the program to its first ever 4-0 start to a conference schedule in its Division I era (since 2005).

"I think the universities that are associated with CUSA academically and athletically are at the highest level in the country and I am grateful to be apart of a league that carries that kind of prestige," Blue added.

League play begins Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 against former Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks hold a slight 12-11 series edge over KSU but the Owls have the most recent win in the series after eliminating JSU from the 2023 ASUN tournament, 82-73.

Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky travel to the Convo Thursday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 11, respectively, to open the home CUSA schedule. MTSU and the Owls square off for just the fourth time ever while WKU marks a new opponent in the 42-season history of KSU women's basketball.

The Owls then return to the road Thursday, Jan. 16 to face Sam Houston followed by a trip to Ruston, La. against Louisiana Tech two days later on Jan. 18. Both games are the first-ever meeting in each series.

KSU's final homestand in January features two more new opponents to the program - New Mexico State (Thursday, Jan. 23) and UTEP (Saturday, Jan. 25).

Blue's Owls then tip-off their longest CUSA road trip of the campaign at Liberty on Thursday, Jan. 30 followed by Florida International (Saturday, Feb. 1), Western Kentucky (Thursday, Feb. 6) and MTSU (Saturday, Feb. 8). KSU has met Liberty on 11 previous occasions and the FIU Panthers twice.

Fans welcome the Black and Gold back to the Convocation Center against Louisiana Tech (Thursday, Feb. 13) and Sam Houston (Saturday, Feb. 15).

The final two road games of the 2024-25 season begin Thursday, Feb. 20 at UTEP and Saturday, Feb. 22 at New Mexico State.

Kennesaw State concludes its regular season slate on a three-game homestand versus FIU (Thursday, Feb. 27), Liberty (Saturday, March 1) and Jax State (Saturday, March 8).

The 2025 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship begins Tuesday, March 11 in Huntsville, Ala.

KSU's 2024-25 non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.

The Black and Gold return All-ASUN selection Prencis Harden from the 2023-24 campaign along with graduate Carly Hooks and 2024 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team selection Trynce Taylor.
