KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls' (14-35) late-inning heroics weren't enough to climb over the Bears (22-24) in either of the sagas in Saturday's doubleheader.
Game One (L, 6-4)
It was quiet on the offensive front for both sides for the first four innings as neither team was able to collect any runs. The Owls secured five hits in that span while Central Arkansas couldn't tally a baserunner in the first four frames.
Lindsey Kyte was rolling through the Bears throwing a perfect game until the top of the fifth inning. The Bears blistered the Owls for four runs in the inning.
UCA then tacked on two total runs in the sixth and seventh inning to take 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Owls turned up the heat offensively.
The rally started with a
Caroline Shumeyko single to second base, her first hit of the game.
Ty Hardeman then laced a triple into the left center gap to bring across the first run for the Black and Gold. The triple was followed by a
Stella Henry infield single to register runners on the corners. With a
Kiera Cooper walk, catcher
Macie Howes had the chance to make a dent in the deficit.
Howes clobbered a bases-clearing double to score three runs for KSU and clipped the UCA lead to just two runs. The Owls ended the game with the winning run at the dish, concluding a 6-4 Central Arkansas win.
Game Two (L, 1-0)
Not much separated the Owls from the Bears in the second leg of the doubleheader as both teams combined for six hits in seven innings.
Although not many hits came across, the bath paths were active. UCA stranded nine runners on the bases and the Owls with eight.
In two separate occasions, freshman
Emma Friedel was able to wiggle out of bases loaded jams, surrendering just one run in her four innings of work.
