Kil Ties Program Record as Owls Stay at Second

4/15/2024 4:32:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – It was an even more impressive day for the Owls as they hold strong at second place after carding a two-under 286 team score in round two in the ASUN Championship.

The team currently sits in second with four strokes of separation above three third place teams and five strokes behind the leader in Lipscomb.

Bella Kil continues to set records for Kennesaw State as she tied the program record for best round score as she posted a six-under 66. It only tied the all-time program record but also sits as only the second time an Owl has done so in the ASUN Championship. In 2013, Ines Lescudier shot a 66 in round three of the championship to lock up the top spot. It ties her career best 66 at the Rio Verde Invitational in 2022 while shattering her season low of 68 this year. It also ties the team high of the '23-'24 season as Lara Jecnik racked up a 66 in Sam Golden Invitational in September. She jumped 21 spots on the back of a six birdie day.

It was another astonishing day from Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman as she shot a two-under 70. She is tied for third after posting her first back-to-back below par rounds since the Sam Golden Invitational. It ranks as her second best score of the year and her second time shooting a 70. She's currently at three-under 141 through two rounds.

Third in the team clubhouse is Alessandra Nagayo as she ended with a two-over 74 and remaining in the top 25. Tied with her at 21st with a 148 total is Lara Jecnik. Jecnik carded a four-over 76.

Nyah Kelly recorded a 79 as she still places in the top 50 with a 154 total score.

Our History

The Owls continue to save their best performances for last finishing top four in every ASUN Championship since the 2009-10 season.

KSU has had a player finish inside the top four individually in every event since the 2011-12 campaign with Bella Kil ending the tournament tied for fourth last year.

The Owls have won four of the last eight ASUN Women's Golf titles including three in a row from 2017-18 to 2021. KSU snatched individual medalist honors in even of the last 10 championships dating back to 2012-13.

A win at the event would secure the Owls a spot in the NCAA Division I regionals for the sixth time in program history.

KSU boasts the most individual medalist honors in ASUN Championship history with seven. The next-closest active ASUN foe is Stetson with two.

The program also has the second-most all-time ASUN Women's Golf titles with five, three behind former conference member Campbell.

The Owls have landed at least one all-conference member dating back to 2008. Jecnik and Kil were both first-team members last year with Neilson landing on third team.

Last year's squad finished fourth with a 909 team score with Kil and Schmit both falling in the top 10.
