It's a Peach State showdown as Kennesaw State (10-21) hosts Georgia Tech (22-12) Tuesday and #3/5 Georgia (27-4) Wednesday evening in back-to-back midweek sagas.
Power Streak
When facing ASUN competition, the Owls have been muscling up the ball. In the Stetson and Eastern Kentucky series, KSU has hammered seven home runs which account for half of the team's home run tally all season. Six of those seven have come in two games when the Owls homered three times in game two versus Stetson and game one against EKU. Three Owls are now tied for the team lead in home runs with three (
Howes,
Guzowski & Amerson-Fox).
The Speed Continues
Speed and athleticism have been one of the strengths for the Owls so far, and that trend has continued. Kennesaw State currently stands 35
th (out of 296) in the nation in total stolen bases with 45. That number is good for fourth in the Atlantic Sun. They are also 50
th in the NCAA in stolen bases per game with 1.61.
Making Them Earn It
When facing the Owls pitching staff, you will need to swing the bat. The Owls rank first in the ASUN in strikeout-to-walk ratio with a 2.20 average. For 155 strikeouts, the Owls have only surrendered 75 walks which also falls top 75 in the country.
Series History
The Owls are craving their first win over Georgia Tech since April 23, 2021 at Bailey Park. The Yellowjackets hold a five-game winning streak over KSU. The previous matchup was March 28, 2023 where GT scored eight runs in the win. KSU has earned 10 wins over Tech in the series history that dates to 1992.
Wednesday's match up versus #3/5 Georgia will be the second highest ranked opponent the Owls have hosted at Bailey Park. The last No. 5 team that team to KSU was Kentucky where the Owls won 9-8 Feb. 14, 2015. The highest ranked home opponent was No. 2 Tennessee as the Owls hosted the Lady Vols on the Valentine's Day home opener this year.
Kennesaw State is still searching for its first victory over the Bulldogs as the series currently stands at 9-0 in favor of UGA.
Scouting Report
The Yellowjackets have been sharp this season sporting a 22-12 record with an 8-4 ACC tally. Much like the Owls, Georgia Tech has played few true road games with 21 games at home and nine away games. Tech has seven batters over the .300 mark with Mallory Black leading the way with a .371 average and 11 round trippers on the season.
There is no drop off in the next opponent as the Owls take on #5 Georgia as the Bulldogs showcase a 27-4 record. UGA has yet to surrender a loss to a non-ranked or receiving votes squad. Leading the charge for UGA is Sydney Kuma who displays a .395 average and a OPS of 1.177, one of five Dawgs with a OPS over 1.000.
On Deck
It's back to the conference grind as the Owls take on Jacksonville for a three-game series starting Friday March 29 with a doubleheader on Saturday.
