THE START LINE
The Kennesaw State track and field teams are set to compete at the ASUN Conference Indoor Championships at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center in Gainesville, Fla. Feb. 23-24.
The men's team will be looking to collect its 10th conference title while the women look to add their third to the trophy case. The women will be aiming to win their second indoor title in the last four seasons while the men attempt to claim their first title since 2018.
The meet starts Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the heptathlon 60-meter dash. Saturday's competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
THE FIELD
Men's Field: Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Florida and Queens.
Women's Field: Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Florida and Queens.
How to Follow the Action
Admission is $15 for one day or $25 for both days of the 2024 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Live video streaming of both days' running events and taped coverage of the field events and multi events will be available on ESPN+. The live broadcast windows include Friday from 3-6:30 p.m. and Saturday from Noon-4 p.m.
Live results will be available throughout the meet, featuring live splits in the running events and throw-by-throw and jump-by-jump updates in the field events, courtesy of Half Mile Timing.
Women's Meet Preview
KSU is looking to close its final chapter in indoor track and field by capturing the fourth women's title in program history.
Three different women's teams have hoisted the first-place trophy within the last six editions of the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships, including Jacksonville in 2018, Liberty in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and Kennesaw State in 2021.
The KSU women own the ASUN's top performance in the following four events this season: 60m hurdles (
Olivia Brown), pole vault (
Rachael Ruff), weight throw (
Kali Terza) and pentathlon (
Amelia Coker). With a win in the 60m hurdles, Brown would become the first four-time gold medalist in the event in ASUN history.
KSU returns three members of its DMR team that took the gold medal in 2023.
Men's Meet Preview
The Kennesaw State men look to put the finishing touches on a dominant era at the ASUN Indoor Championships.
The Owls have captured a meet-record nine men's team titles during the 18-year history of the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships.
KSU returns two men's individual event champions from last year's meet, including
Simon Seid (pole vault) and
Kaelen Mitchell (long jump).
The Owls 4x400m relay team of
Malik Hussie,
Tyriq Hussie,
Sparticus Griffin and
Chance Cross are also back for a shot at a second consecutive gold medal.
The Owls have the conference's top mark of 2024 in seven different events, including the 60m hurdles (
Jeremiah Sims), pole vault (
Simon Seid), long jump (
Kaelen Mitchell), triple jump (
Justin Campbell), shot put (
Caleb Hartley), weight throw (
Anthony Harrison) and heptathlon (
Jordan Fick). The Owls also own the fastest time in the 4x400m relay this season.
LAST TEAM INDOOR MEET
KSU wrapped up the regular season at the Music City Challenge, Bulldog Open and Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 9-10. The Owls won two events, set a school record and had several personal-best performances.
NEXT UP
Individuals who finish in the top-16 nationally in their specific event or top-12 in relay at the end of the indoor season will head to Boston, Mass. to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 9-10. The Owls open their outdoor season on March 23-24 at the Don McGarey Invitational in Kennesaw, Ga.
