LOXLEY, Ala. – Kennesaw State men's golf flew out to a strong start at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in Loxley, Ala., placing third after 36 holes at 13-under par.
"Pretty solid day overall here at Steelwood," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We left some shots on the course, but we found some momentum in two steady rounds and everyone contributing in scoring. This team loves to get into contention and tomorrow sets up well for an attack."
The Owls carded rounds of 282-281 on the first day with
Shaun Cook pacing the Owls at 6-under par to tie for fifth.
Right behind Cook was
Kyle Bachkosky (70-70) and
Claes Borregaard (71-69), who are both tied for ninth at 4-under par.
Luca Gallingani (73-73) is tied for 38th at 2-over par, while
Hunter Gillard (76-72) is tied for 53rd at 4-over par.
The Owls will finish play at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 8:45 a.m.
Notes:
- Cook ranked second on the tournament with 12 birdies in the first two rounds;
- Part of the Owls' strength was in taking advantage of the par 5's as Bachkosky tied for the best at 7-under overall on them, while Cook ranked fourth with a 6-under par score on the par 5's;
- Borregaard also ranked among the field's best on par 4's with a 5-under score to tie for third, while Cook tied for seventh at 3-under par;
- As a team, Kennesaw State ranked third with 40 birdies on the first 36 holes.
