KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team defeated West Alabama by scores of 7-0 and 5-2 in a doubleheader on the Betty Siegel Courts Wednesday.
Match One
The Owls opened the doubles session clinching the point with a pair of 6-2 victories on courts two and three.
Harvey Conway and
Hugo Salmeron won on court two while
Joel Gibson and
Anthony Weingarten were victorious on court three.
The Owls were dominant in singles. KSU won all six matches and dropped just one set.
Hugo Salmeron pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Eita Ishikawa. Transfer
Sam Baldwin picked up his first singles win downing Nuuti Jokinen 6-1, 6-4.
Raul Garcia won a straight-set match at No. 1 6-2, 6-2, to make the score 4-0 and clinch the KSU victory. Newcomer
Mikolaj Lis beat Wilson Igbinovia 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 to pick up his first collegiate win.
Joel Gibson (7-5, 7-6 (7-0)) and
Brian Capalnean (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) closed out the match with victories.
Match 2
KSU won the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
Harvey Conway and
Hugo Salmeron clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Lucas Hammond and Eita Ishikawa.
Raul Garcia and
Mikolaj Lis took down Wilson Igbinovia and Villsav Bonev 6-4.
Austin Miramontes picked up his first career singles win by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Anthony Weingarten picked up where he left off last year in singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Eita Ishikawa.
Seru Tezuka downed Federico Iturbe 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the win for KSU.
Brian Capalnean closed the scoring for the Owls with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alejandro Flores.
Next Up
The Owls will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12 p.m. ET.
