Black and Gold Host Governors in Thursday Showdown

The Lead

 

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State (8-12, 4-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) returns to the KSU Convocation Center Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off against the Austin Peay Governors (9-12, 2-5 ASUN) to begin the February 2024 slate.

Junior Prencis Harden leads the Black and Gold with 266 points (14 per game), 144 rebounds (7.2 per game), 27 steals and 99 made field goals this season.

Thursday is part of a doubleheader with Kennesaw State men's basketball, set for tip-off following the matchup against the Governors.

This is Kennesaw State's final season in the ASUN Conference before moving to Conference USA on July 1.

Prencis Harden
  • Last time out, KSU battled for four quarters with 6-1 Central Arkansas Saturday but fell to the Sugar Bears, 67-60.
    • Harden led KSU with 22 points, 14 rebounds and five steals.
    • She is tied for the ASUN lead with six double-doubles this season and has 14 games with double-digit points - 12 in the last 13 games.
  • A victory gives KSU its third-straight season with 7-or-more home wins for the first time since 2008-11.
  • Carly Hooks and Harden lead the Atlantic Sun with the most 20-point games by a pair of teammates this season with eight.
  • Austin Peay enters Thursday on a five-game losing streak. The Governors lost to FGCU Saturday, 65-54.

  • KSU is top three in the ASUN in the following categories:
    • 2nd - rebounding defense (32.85)
    • 3rd - blocked shots per game (3.40)
    • 3rd - rebounding margin (+4.80)

In Our Blue Era

Coach Blue Extension 2027
  • On Dec. 7, Blue signed a contract extension through the 2026-27 season with KSU.
  • She is the fastest coach in Kennesaw State women's basketball's DI history to 27 wins, shattering the previous mark by 12 games.
  • Since Blue took over in 2021-22, the Owls have the third-most home conference wins of any DI women's basketball program in the state of Georgia (12), trailing only Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern (13).
  • Coach Blue reached 20 home wins on Jan. 6 vs. Queens, taking only 35 games to achieve the feat and passing the previous KSU women's basketball's DI record by four games.
  • The Black and Gold protected the Nest in 2022-23, accruing a 9-4 record inside the friendly confines of the KSU Convocation Center.
  • Last season, KSU WBB doubled its conference win total from five to 10, finishing with a 10-8 record in ASUN play.
  • In her first two seasons at the helm, Coach Blue has secured 24 wins, the second-most by a KSU coach in DI program history in their first two seasons.
  • Of the 14 Owls on the roster, seven are new to the Nest as freshmen or transfers, but for the first time as head coach, Blue's roster is 100% comprised of players brought in by one of her staffs.
  • The 2023-24 season marks the final year of competition for Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
