KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls fought to the fourth dead heat of the season versus Bellarmine Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
"Obviously I'm disappointed with the draw but I thought we had some great opportunities," coach Benji Walton said. "I'm proud of the fight and energy this team displayed tonight."
Kennesaw State (1-5-4) controlled the momentum for a majority of the contest but couldn't quite net one versus Bellarmine (3-4-3).
Keeper
Allanah Blye made the first stunning play of the game in the initial 10 minutes. She made a goal saving play toward the top right edge of the box diving to prevent the attack from getting around her. She would later make a play nearly identical to that one but in the left corner of the box.
Tianna Rivera manufactured a beautiful shot on goal 12 minutes into the first after crossing over a defender and forcing the keeper to move to her right for the stop.
Defender Paris McColluch sent in a rainbow left-to-right cross that found the foot of
Macie Rainwater but was deflected away by the Bellarmine defense halfway through the first.
Kendall Hoskins entered the game and tossed in a good-looking cross to the foot of
Brenna Young to inject more life into the KSU attack with 15 minutes left.
The first half was petal to the metal on both sides out shooting Bellarmine three to one with two being on goal while only allowing one shot from the Knights.
Alana Nesbit entered the game to start the second half and made an impressive run with the ball threatening toward the right post in the first few minutes.
One of the best chances the Owls had was with 30 min left after
Ebony Clarke broke free from a defender but couldn't covert after the defense forced a shallow angle.
Clarke also had another solid look with nearly 20 minutes left but just missed the mark thanks to the savvy recovery from the Knights back line.
The Owls attack nearly took the lead off the Rainwater cross with two Owls on the other end, but the ball escaped their feet with seven minutes left.
Aila Swinton nearly scored from 30 yards out in the 95
th minute as she pooched one just off the keeper's fingertips, inches away from finding the net.
Kennesaw State outshot the Knights 10-4 in the contest with a 4-2 shot on goal advantage. They also doubled Bellarmine in corner kicks 4-2.
