KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Director of Tennis Matt Emery announced the signing of five men's tennis student-athletes on Tuesday. All five will join the Owls beginning this fall.
 
Among the signings are Augustin Miramontes, Fardeen Quamar, Sam Baldwin, Joel Gibson and Brian Capalnean.
 
"This is a large freshman class for the Owls, and it is one we are very excited about, " Emery said. "Huge shoutout to Coach Pritchard and Coach Knox for their tireless efforts on the recruiting trail in recruiting these five young men to the Owl family."
 
Miramontes heads to KSU from Alpharetta, Ga. where he recently graduated from Laurel Springs High School. He holds an 11.47 UTR and is ranked top 75 in the United States in the Boy's 18 and Under Singles Rankings. He finished ranked No. 1 in the South in every age group (Boy's 14's, 16's and 18's). He took home 6th place in singles and third place in doubles at the 2022 Boy's 16's National Clay Court Championships. He has a 4-1 singles match record against Blue Chip recruits, according to Tennis Recruiting
 
"We are very excited about Austin's future here at KSU, Emery said.  "He is a very strong, athletic player with a huge upside. Austin comes from a great background and is very hungry to maximize his tennis potential, and we can't wait to get started with him developing that potential."
 
Quamar hails from Tonk, India where he attended Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University. He has a UTR high of 12.50 and has ranked as high as #1285 in the ATP Men's Singles Rankings. He won the Boy's 18's Roland Garros Amateur Series and several Grade 4 and Grade 5 ITF Singles Titles.
 
"Fardeen is a great addition to the Owl family," Emery stated. "He has had success at every level and he brings a lot of experience to our program. Fardeen is an athletic, explosive player who will immediately contribute in both singles and doubles."
 
Baldwin is from Buderim, Queensland, Australia. He is transferring to KSU from the University of Montana. He will be a junior for the Owls in 2023-24. He has a UTR high of 11.71 and went 9-3 in singles in the top 4 singles spots and undefeated at #1 singles in 2022-23 for Montana. He was the 2020 Queensland Junior Champion of Champions and Finalist at the Boy's 18's Spanish Nationals.
"Sam is a very good college player who will bring some valuable experience to our program," Emery added. "Having had success at the top position in the lineup at Montana, Sam is a player who thrives under pressure. Our program will benefit greatly from not only his high level of play, but also his energy, experience, and competitiveness."
 
Gibson is from Middlesbrough, United Kingdom where he recently graduated from Nunthorpe Academy. He has an 11.89 UTR. He has ranked as high as fourth in the national UK rankings and 599^th in the ITF rankings. He finished runner up in the final of a National Grade 1 Singles Tournament. He qualified to play at Wimbledon in the 14 and under division. He won an ITF Juniors J3 doubles tournament in the 18 and under division.
 
"Joel is a player we are excited about," Emery said. "He has had a great summer and has posted some very strong results. He should have an immediate impact on our program."
 
Capalnean arrives at KSU from Maribyrnong, Victoria, Australia and recently graduated from Maribyrnong Secondary College. While at MSC, Capalnean won Australian National Championships in singles and doubles playing on court one. He has a UTR of 10.82.
 
"Brian is a talented player who will add some depth to our lineup," Emery said. "He has a great work ethic and his game has a tremendous upside."
 
The Owls return to campus in mid-August to begin prep for the 2023-24 season.
