KSU Opens ASUN Championship With Pair of Low Rounds

MOBILE, Ala. – 
The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place after the opening two rounds of the ASUN Championship which were played on Tuesday at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
 
The Owls opened play with a 7-under 281 and closed it with an 11-under par 277 for an 18-under par total of 558. The rounds of 277 and 281 are the Owls lowest on a par-72 course this season. The 558 score is tied fourth lowest in program history through 36-holes on a par-72 course. The 11-under par round of 277 ranks seventh in program history. The Owls lead the field with 124 pars. KSU is tied with Austin Peay for seventh place. No. 39 Liberty leads the 14-team field at 40-under par 536.
 
"I am really proud of everyone today and some record scoring," head coach Bryant Odom said. "We had our second-lowest round of the year this morning and our lowest of the year this afternoon. Our goals today were to hit as many greens as possible and have opportunities to score and we met most of those goals. Everyone is excited to finish the year on a high note tomorrow."
 
Claes Borregaard paced the Owls with a pair of 3-under par rounds of 69. He is tied for 14th at 6-under par 138. Borregaard made 26 pars and eight birdies during his opening 36 holes. His 26 pars rank tied for eighth in the field through two rounds.
 
Shaun Cook opened with a 1-under 71 and closed with a 4-under 68. He is tied for 17th at 5-under par 139. The freshman rolled in 27 pars and seven birdies on Tuesday. His 27 pars are tied for fourth in the field.
 
Hugo Lari posted rounds of 3-under par 69 and even-par 72. He is tied for 29th at 3-under par 141. The junior birdied two of his final four holes of the day.
 
Evan Thompson and Yuya Eguchi each carded rounds of 72-70 and are tied for 36th at 2-under par 142. Thompson was 3-under par on his final six holes of the second round. Eguchi opened the back nine of round two with a double bogey but finished his final eight holes at 2-under par.
 
The final round of the ASUN Championship is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26. KSU will be paired with Austin Peay and Lipscomb and will tee off from 9-9:40 a.m. ET.
