RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team earned another incredible placement this season with a second-place finish at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona Sunday.
The Owls recorded a 13-over 301 score Sunday to close out at 28-over 892 for the event.
The finish marked KSU's fourth top-two finish of the 2022-23 season and the eighth of head coach Erin Thorne's tenure at Kennesaw State.
LEADING THE TEAM:
Lara Jecnik led the way for the Black and Gold with a 3-over 75 card in round three. Her final scorecard ended at 4-over 220.
Jecnik finished tied for fifth in the event. The junior has placed top-15 in all five events she has participated in this season.
SCORECARD:
Cameron Neilson finished tied for 12th in Arizona after a 3-over 75 score Sunday. Her overall score stood at 8-over 224.
Seniors Bella Kil and Meva Schmit followed right behind Neilson with 9-over 225 tournament scores. Schmit also posted a 3-over 75 in round three while Kil carded a 4-over 76.
Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman ended the Rio Verde Invitational at 11-over 227. Her round three score stood at 5-over 77.
THORNE'S THOUGHTS:
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> Kennesaw State was the only team in the 18-team field to have all players post scores of 77 or lower in every single round of the event.
>> The Owls extended their program record to nine-consecutive top five finishes.
NEXT TEE TIME:
A quick turnaround for KSU sees the Owls return to the course on Mar. 6-7 for the UNF Collegiate hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
