Freshmen Guide Owls to Comeback Victory Over South Carolina State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team came from behind to defeat South Carolina State 4-3 on the Betty Siegel Courts on Sunday.
 
South Carolina State captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.
 
Hugo Salmeron got the Owls (5-1) on the board in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Benjamin Niv on court three. Raul Garcia followed Salmeron picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Aissa Benchakroun on court one. The Bulldogs would regain the lead with a pair of wins on courts two and four. It came down to courts five and six to determine the match and the Owls two freshmen stepped up to the challenge. Anthony Weingarten continued his strong play with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Pedro Sasso on court six. After losing his opening set, David Leon was able to grind out a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Roslav Haflinger to seal the victory for KSU.
 
"Hats off to the freshmen for coming up clutch today," assistant coach Simon Pritchard said. "David and Anthony showed great composure and played some really good tennis at the end of a tight match."
 
The Owls will head to Cookeville, TN. to face Tennessee Tech on Friday, Mar. 3 at 1 p.m. ET.
