DORADO, Puerto Rico – The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in a tie for 12
th place after round one of the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach.
The Owls carded a 4-over 292 in round one and sit just four shots out of the top 10. UNCG leads the 14-team field at 15-under par.
"After today's round we are tied for third in par 5 scoring and tied for fourth in par 3 scoring but only beat one team on the par 4s," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "If we can clean up some of the tee shots that gave us trouble we are really close to a nice team round. The guys have worked hard on their strategies on the 3s and 5s so I'm excited to see them get rewarded."
Evan Thompson paced the Owls in round one. Thompson carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 27
th. He rolled in five birdies and nine pars during the opening round.
Claes Borregaard is tied for 39
th at even par after a round of 72. He made four birdies over his final nine holes on Sunday.
Shaun Cook closed with five consecutive pars to post a 2-over 74. The freshmen is tied for 59
th. His 13 pars in round one is tied for third-most in the field.
Hugo Lari (75) is tied for 68
th and
Yuya Eguchi (78) is tied for 81
st.
Playing as an individual,
Lucas Mota is tied for 68
th with Lari at 3-over par 75.
The Owls will tee off in round two of the Dorado Beach Collegiate at 7:30 a.m. ET on Monday, Feb. 26. KSU will be paired with Augusta, Rutgers and Drexel.
