KENNESAW, Ga. – Sarah Hendrick and
Chance Cross collected ASUN Athlete of the Week Awards for their performances at the Bob Pollock Invitational, the conference announced Wednesday.
Hendrick was named ASUN Women's Track Athlete of the Week. She won the 800m in a time of 2:03.51 at the Bob Pollock Invitational. She defeated runners from Alabama, Furman, Mississippi State and Clemson among others in the event. That result is tops in the ASUN, third in the U.S. and fifth in the NCAA this season. The Kennesaw native also ran second leg on the KSU 4x400m team that posted a time of 3:48.81 to finish seventh – good enough for tops in the ASUN this season. This is her 10
th ASUN Athlete of the Week honor.
Cross was named ASUN Men's Freshman of the Week. He finished 15th in the 200m (21.74) and 18th in the 60m (6.86) in very strong fields at the Bob Pollock Invitational. Both of those times were personal-best and rank tied for third in the ASUN this season. The Bogart, Ga. native ran the third leg on the Owls 4x400m relay team that set the school record with a time of 3:11.42 to finish seventh in another strong field at the Bob Pollock Invitational. That time ranks tops in the ASUN by nearly seven seconds. This is his first career ASUN Athlete of the Week honor.
The Owls will head to Blacksburg, Va. for the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet, Lexington, Va. for VMI Relays and Boston, Mass for the Bruce LeHane Scarlet and White Meet on Feb. 3-4.
