Gold Rush Highlights Saturday Showdown vs. Mariners

KENNESAW, Ga. - A three-game homestand concludes for Kennesaw State (2-4) Saturday, Dec. 2 against in-state foe Coastal Georgia (5-5) at 3:30 p.m. inside the KSU Convocation Center.

The Owls and Mariners have met once before in program history on Dec. 29, 2022 in a 109-53 victory for KSU. 109 points set a program record for the most points scored by the Black and Gold in a single game.

Kennesaw State enters Saturday having held its last four opponents (Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Florida Atlantic and Chattanooga) to their season-low point totals.

  • GOLD RUSH - Saturday features a doubleheader starting with KSU men's basketball at 1:00 p.m. in its first matchup against Georgia State since 1989 followed by KSU women's basketball against Coastal Georgia. Fans are encouraged to arrive at the Convocation Center early for first-come, first-serve FREE ‘Gold Rush’ t-shirts and cheer both squads on to victory.

Carly Hooks vs. Coastal Georgia
  • The Owls last played this past Wednesday, Nov. 29 in a hard-fought defeat to 2023 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament participant Chattanooga, 49-43.
  • A strong second-half effort from the Owls led by Carly Hooks and Kyndall Golden kept the Owls at-pace with the Mocs.
  • Hooks had her second-consecutive 20-point game and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line with a career-high-tying two blocks.
    • She tied former Owl Gillian Piccolino with 45 career blocks on the KSU WBB Division I list, good for ninth in the record book.
  • Golden tied her single-game career-high for blocks (10) in the first half and ended the game with 13, extending her 2023-24 team lead to 45.
  • KSU has held its last four opponents to season-low point totals (Georgia State - 62, Georgia Tech - 77, FAU - 43 and UTC - 49, respectively)
  • The Owls are 2-1 at home this season and have won six of their last eight games inside the Convo.
  • The Black and Gold are 1-0 all-time against Coastal Georgia, winning last season's first-ever meeting 109-53.
  • Six Owls tallied 10 points or more in last season's meeting, including 11 points from Keyarah Berry. Golden led the team with two blocks. Five Owls, including Prencis Harden and Golden had a team-best six rebounds in the contest.

  • Senior Kyndall Golden has shined on defense for the Owls in the early part of the 2023-24 season and ranks among the best in the country in the following categories:
    • 23rd in blocks per game (2.17)
    • 34th in total blocks (13)

  • Head coach Octavia Blue is the fastest coach in Kennesaw State women's basketball's DI history to 26 wins, shattering the previous mark by 12 games.
  • Since Blue took over in 2021-22, the Owls have the third-most home conference wins of any DI women's basketball program in the state of Georgia (9), tied with UGA and Mercer - and behind only Georgia Southern (11) and Georgia Tech (10).
  • Coach Blue reached 18 home wins on Nov. 25 vs. FAU, taking only 30 games to achieve the feat and passing former head coach Agnus Berenato's KSU women's basketball's DI record by six games.
  • The Black and Gold protected the Nest in 2022-23, accruing a 9-4 record inside the friendly confines of the KSU Convocation Center.
  • Last season, KSU WBB doubled its conference win total from five to 10, finishing with a 10-8 record in ASUN play.
  • In her first two seasons at the helm, Coach Blue has secured 24 wins, the second-most by a KSU coach in DI program history in their first two seasons.
  • Of the 14 Owls on the roster, seven are new to the Nest as freshmen or transfers, but for the first time as head coach, Blue's roster is 100% comprised of players brought in by one of her staffs.

  • 2022-23 was a season of success for the Owls, with Coach Blue leading KSU to its most conference wins (10) since 2008-09 and most single-season victories (15) since 2014-15.
  • KSU is set to host 11 more home games this season, including exciting contests against Belmont (Dec. 17) and Georgetown (Dec. 28).
  • The 2023-24 season marks the final year of competition for Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
