SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team moved into second place after round two at the Carolina Cup on Monday at the Country Club of Carolina.
"The team responded today and improved in a lot of areas," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "Shaun posted one of the low rounds of the day and everyone was contributing for most of the round. We moved up the leaderboard and closed in on the lead. Tomorrow we will fight until the end and see where it shakes out. Everyone is looking forward to the challenge."
The Owls posted a 4-over par round of 292 in round two and have 36-hole total of 15-over par 591. Winthrop leads the field at 13-over par 589.
Shaun Cook birdied four of his first nine holes to record a 3-under 69. He is tied for third at even-par 144. Cook's eight birdies through 36 holes are tied for fifth most in the field. The sophomore has carded rounds at par or better in four of his first eight rounds this season.
Hunter Gillard closed with a pair of pars to post a 2-over 74. He is tied for 13
th at 2-over par 146 through 36 holes.
Kyle Bachkosky and
Hugo Lari are tied for 29
th and 33
rd respectively. Bachkosky shot 75 for a 6-over total of 150. Lari bounced back on Tuesday with a 2-over 74 and has a 36-hole total score of 7-over par 151.
Freshman
Joshua Todd fired a 76 and tied for 53
rd at 11-over par 155.
Play as individual, Reid Sweigart (79) is tied for 56
th at 12-over par 156.
The Owls will play in the final of the Carolina Cup on Tuesday, October 10. KSU is paired with UTSA, North Texas and Winthrop. The Owls will tee off from 9:50 -10:34 a.m.
