SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team opened play at the Carolina Cup on Sunday at the Country Club of Carolina.
"Today was a challenging day on the course with blustery winds and firm, fast greens," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We fought hard and are in good position even with poor scoring on par 5s. We look to improve tomorrow and see if we can move up."
KSU posted an 11-over round of 299 in round one. North Texas and Winthrop lead the field at 4-over par 292.
Hunter Gillard guided the Owls with an even-par round of 72. Gillard made 11 pars, four birdies and an eagle during his round and is tied for seventh overall. He played his final three holes at 4-under par.
Shaun Cook and
Kyle Bachkosky both carded rounds of 3-over 75 and are tied for 24
th. Cook birdied his final two holes of the round.
Hugo Lari posted a 5-over 77 and is tied for 41
st.
In his KSU debut, Joshua Tood shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 57
th.
Playing as an individual, Reid Sweigart fired a 5-over 77.
The Owls will play in round two of the Carolina Cup on Monday, October 9. KSU is paired with Mercer, UTSA and Charleston Southern. The Owls will tee off from 8:30 - 9:18 a.m.
