Extra Inning Softball Release
KENNESAW, Ga. – A busy week for Kennesaw State softball third baseman
Taylor Cates continues after being named the No. 7 third baseman in the country entering 2023 by Extra Inning Softball.
Cates was the highest-ranked ASUN third baseman, one spot ahead of Austin Peay's Lexi Osowski.
Cates started in all 51 games for the Owls last season and set KSU DI single-season records in home runs (19) and total bases (133). She enters 2023 needing only 18 more starts to pass Owl legend Jessica Cross for most consecutive starts in KSU DI history at 164.
She led the team in batting average (.389), OPS (1.280), runs (40), hits (61), doubles (15), home runs (19), RBI (48), total bases (133), slugging percentage (.847), and on-base percentage (.433).
She was named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team for a third-straight season on Wednesday and was placed No. 87 on Extra Inning Softball's Extra Elite 100 on Monday.
Kennesaw State opens the 2023 campaign at the Stinger Classic in Montgomery, Ala. against UT Martin and Tennessee Tech on Feb. 10 through Feb. 12.
The Owls return to Bailey Park on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for a showdown with the Mercer Bears. Admission is free to all home contests in 2023.
