ATLANTA, Ga. – Infielder Taylor Cates represented Kennesaw State softball on the 2023 ASUN Preseason All-Conference team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Cates started in all 51 games for the Owls last season and set KSU DI single-season records in home runs (19) and total bases (133). She enters 2023 needing only 18 more starts to pass Owl legend Jessica Cross for most consecutive starts in KSU DI history at 164.
She led the team in batting average (.389), OPS (1.280), runs (40), hits (61), doubles (15), home runs (19), RBI (48), total bases (133), slugging percentage (.847), and on-base percentage (.433).
The honor marked her third-consecutive season on the preseason team. She was placed No. 87 on Extra Inning Softball's Extra Elite 100 on Monday.
The Owls were picked to finish third in the ASUN preseason coaches poll, behind only Central Arkansas and 2022 ASUN Champion Liberty.
Kennesaw State opens the 2023 campaign at the Stinger Classic in Montgomery, Ala. against UT Martin and Tennessee Tech on Feb. 10 through Feb. 12.
The Owls return to Bailey Park on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for a showdown with the Mercer Bears. Admission is free to all home contests in 2023.
