KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State softball head coach Tripp MacKay has added former decorated outfielder Brea Dickey as an assistant coach, he announced Tuesday.

The Lawrenceville, Ga. native returns to Kennesaw State after producing one of the most successful careers at the plate in Owl softball history.

"I'm super excited for this opportunity to come back to Kennesaw as a coach," Dickey said. "I'm looking forward to working with the girls and our staff. As a player, I learned a lot from Coach MacKay and I am excited to work with him."

During her three seasons at KSU, she accrued 135 hits with a .363 batting average in 132 games played. Dickey's .438 batting average in 2020 is the Kennesaw State softball Division I single-season record.

"It's very exciting to have Brea back in our program," MacKay said. "She was a standout athlete during her playing career here at KSU."

In her final season with the Owls in 2021, she received NFCA All-Region second team, ASUN All-Conference first team and ASUN All-Tournament team honors while leading the team in batting average (.374), OPS (1.063), runs scored (39), hits (64), doubles (15), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.626).

Dickey is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-American selection and was named to the ASUN Conference All-Academic team in 2021. In 2019 she earned a Google Cloud Academic All-District honor.

"She was an important part of helping shape our team culture as a player and I know she will do great things as she emerges into her role as a coach," MacKay added.

She graduated from KSU with a degree in health and human services and was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar in 2021 with a 3.92 GPA.

Prior to her collegiate career at Collins Hill High School, she earned All-County, All-Region and All-State first team honors in each of her final three seasons.
