WOLCOTT, Colo. – Lara Jecnik's career-best round led the Kennesaw State women's golf on Wednesday to give the team a second-place finish at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
The Owls finished 3-under 861 on the Fazio Course after scoring 8-under 280 in round three.
The Black and Gold finished nine shots ahead of third-place Colorado and 24 strokes better than ASUN foe Central Arkansas.
LEADING THE TEAM:
Bella Kil finished tied for fourth after posting a 2-under 70 in the final round. She tied for the most eagles on the course with two.
Kil hit a 2.67 average on par-3's to place her second in the tournament. Her 4.58 par-5 scoring tied for second among the participants.
SCORECARD:
Jecnik tied the program's record for the single-round best in a par 72 tournament with a 6-under 66 scorecard on the day to finish tied for sixth place. She hit the sixth most par-4 in the tournament recording a 3.93 average.
Cameron Neilson finished round three with a 3-over 75 to tie for 13th. Neilson led the team in pars with 41, the third-most overall.
Meva Schmit shot 3-over 75 in the final round to finish with a 223 total.
Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman finished 3-under 69 on the day to finish with a 224 overall scorecard. She led the team in the event with 12 birdies.
GOLF CART NOTES:
>> The team's third-round score of 280 ties the lowest par 72 single-round score in program history
>> The Owls' 861 overall score is the third-lowest par 72 score in program history and the lowest of the Thorne era.
>> The Owls 2.98 par-3 scoring average tied for best in the tournament.
>> The team tied for the second most pars (168), fifth-most birdies (47) and third-most eagles (3).
>> KSU's averages in par-4 (4.12) and par-5 (4.90) scoring were third in the event.
NEXT TEE TIME:
The Owls head to Savannah, Ga. on Monday, Oct. 17-19 to tee off at The Southern hosted by Georgia Southern.
