Choudrant, La. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in 18
th place after the opening round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club.
Four Owls made their KSU debuts on Sunday.
"We had a very solid start to the round and got into contention after the turn but lost a few shots as a team mid back nine," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "The field is pretty bunched up and overall, we feel good about moving up the leaderboard the next two rounds. Looking forward to getting back in the course tomorrow."
The Owls carded a 3-over par 291 in round one. ULM leads the 23-team field after a 14-under 274 in round one.
Lucas Mota led the Owls with a 1-under par 71. Mota made six birdies and seven pars during his round. He is tied for 39
th.
Freshman
Shaun Cook posted an even-par 72 in his Owls debut. The Norcross, Ga. native closed his Owls debut with a birdie on his final hole of the day.
Hugo Lari carded a 1-over 73 and
Evan Thompson recorded a 3-over 75 in their Owls debut.
Claes Borregaard is tied for 112
th at 5-over after a 77 in round one
The Owls will play in round two on Monday, September 12.
