Haugh Competes in Hammer Throw Final at World Athletics Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Volunteer coach and former Owl Daniel Haugh completed his run in the hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships Saturday at Hayward Field.
 
The United States Champion finished eighth in the event with a best of 78.10m.
 
Haugh earned his spot in the final on Friday, leading Group A with a 79.34m mark. The finish was second among participants. The qualification field featured 32 athletes from 21 different countries.
 
Haugh qualified for the World Championships by winning the gold medal in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 80.18m (263'1") at the USATF Championships. That mark ranks fifth in U.S. history. He won the National Championship in the hammer throw in 2019 as an Owl. He competed at the 2019, 2021, 2022 U.S. Championships, 2019 World Championships and the 2020 Olympics.
