LSU Scores Late to Defeat Owls in Opening Round

Box Score

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Kennesaw State baseball dropped game one of the Hattiesburg Regional by a score of 14-11 to the LSU Tigers on Friday night inside Pete Taylor Park. With the loss, the Owls (35-27) are set to face Army at 1:00 p.m. (ET) in the loser's bracket of the tournament.

Army dropped a pitcher's duel to Southern Miss, 2-0, to fall into the loser's bracket. Tomorrow, the Owls and Black Knights collide for the first matchup in series history.

KSU has won three-consecutive games this season when facing elimination and look to continue that streak as the Hattiesburg Regional continues.

Jack Myers entered in relief and threw 5.1 innings for the KSU pitching staff. The right-hander struck out seven batters and retired seven Tigers in-a-row at one point in the ballgame.

The Kennesaw State offense collected 13 hits and had five Owls post multi-hit performances. The team was led by Josh Hatcher who had a team-high three hits and finished 3-for-4 on the evening. In his first at-bat, Hatcher laced his 26th two-bagger to move into first place in the country in doubles.

Tyler Simon posted a 2-for-5 night and blasted a home run for his eighth on the season. The shortstop finished with four RBI and one run scored in the contest.

Donovan Cash registered his team-leading 30th multi-hit game on the year in a 2-for-4 night at the plate. The first baseman slashed his 21st double on the season and drove in two runs for the offense.

Brayden Eidson and Nick Hassan held down the bottom of the order and each posted 2-for-5 performances. Both Eidson and Hassan recorded one RBI and one run scored against the Tigers.

Cash Young and Spencer Hanson also recorded base hits in the NCAA Regional opener. Young drove in the first run of the night for the KSU offense while Hanson added a run scored and one RBI.

The Owls are back in action tomorrow against the Army Black Knights. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. (ET) and will be the first elimination game of the Hattiesburg Regional.
