KENNESAW, Ga. – Lyndsey Whilby is the latest transfer to join the Owls for the 2022-23 season, as the Georgia native has signed a letter of intent to play for Kennesaw State women's basketball, KSU head coach
Octavia Blue announced on Friday.
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Lyndsey to Kennesaw State and back home to Georgia," said Blue. "She is a dynamic player with a ton of experience. Her versatility and ability to knock down shots from the outside will allow us to compete at a much higher level."
A product of McEachern HS out of Powder Springs, Ga., the 5-11 guard will have one year of eligibility for the Owls after spending her first three seasons at a pair of Power 5 schools. As a freshman, she started nine games while appearing in all 30 games and averaging 7.2 ppg for the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the 2016-17 season. She reached double-figures 10 times, including a pair of 21-point games, and earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors once while twice knocked down five three-pointers in a game during the year.
Whilby then transferred to Purdue, and after sitting out the 2017-18 season due to then-NCAA transfer rules, she played in 57 total games over the next two seasons while posting three total starts in her two years with the Boilermakers. She recorded six total double-figure scoring games for Purdue in her two years, and finished her time with 3.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 41.7% from three-point range. An opt-out of the 2020-21 campaign due to Covid, she earned her degree from Purdue and spent the 2022 spring semester as a graduate student at Texas Southern before making to the move to Kennesaw State.
While at McEachern, she helped the Indians to three-straight Georgia AAAAAA state championship titles. A 1,000-point prep scorer, the four-star recruit and No. 30 guard in the 2017 recruiting class (ESPN Hoopgurlz) averaged 13 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game her senior season. She claimed
Atlanta Journal Constitution First-Team AAAAAA All-Region and Second Team All-State accolades as a senior, while also picking up All-Metro Atlanta Second-Team honors by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. Whilby was selected for the 2017 Georgia North/South Senior All-Star team, and played AAU for the WP Celtics under head coach Renardo Hudson.
Whilby is the fifth player to sign with the Owls this spring, joining transfers Keyarah Berry, Carly Hooks, Taylor Cullinan, and Lee'Aira Willis.
