KENNESAW, Ga. – Sarah Hendrick (800m) along with former Owls
Daniel Haugh (hammer throw) and
Paris Williams (110m hurdles)
will compete with the best track and field athletes in the country at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Kali Terza (hammer throw),
Ciara Miles (3k) and
Xavier Parris (200m) will represent KSU at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships.
The USATF Championships run Thursday, June 23 through Sunday, June 26 while the USATF U20 Championships are slated for Thursday, June 23 through Saturday, June 25.
The top three finishers in each event at the USATF Championships advance to the World Athletics Championships, which will also be at Oregon's Hayward Field on July 15-24. Athletes must also hit a qualifying standard to advance to Worlds.
If Terza, Miles or Parris qualifies out of U-20s they will advance to the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Santiago de Cali, Colombia, on Aug. 1-6.
How They Qualified
Hendrick qualified for the 800m with her time of 2:00.98 that she ran at the Kennesaw State Invitational. That time tied for the fastest in the NCAA this season. The junior concluded the NCAA outdoor season with 11 race victories. She established a new school record in the 800m and 1500m this season.
Haugh landed a toss of 79.44m (260'7") at the Music City Track Carnival Festival on June 3. That mark ranks No.1 in the US and No. 6 in the world this season.
Williams qualified for this event with a time of 13.56 seconds in the 110m hurdles at the Music City Track Carnival Festival on June 3.
Terza landed a toss of 57.52m (188'8") at the Emory Final Qualifier on May 18 to secure a sport in the U20 championships. That mark established a new school record in the event.
Miles time of 9:54.97 at the Music City Invitational on Feb .11 earned her a spot in the 3k at the U20 championships.
Parris posted a time of 21.40 seconds in the 200m at the ASUN Outdoor Championships on May 13 to secure a sport in Eugene.
