Meva Schmit has had a remarkable presence on KSU's golf program since her freshman season, where she was ranked ninth in the ASUN Conference. The 2021 ASUN All-Conference selection won the Indonesian Junior Amateur Championship in 2018 and finished second in the Indonesian National Championship in 2017. Her passion for golf and her teammates pushes her to work hard on the course. The rising junior opens up about her personal experiences at Kennesaw State and her plans for the future.
KSUOWLS.com: What made you choose KSU?
Meva Schmit: School is really important to me, so when I saw that they had a great tech program, I knew KSU was for me.
KSUOWLS.com: If you could describe one word about your team what would it be?
Meva Schmit: Determined, because we give our all and never give up.
KSUOWLS.com: What is your favorite thing about your teammates?
Meva Schmit: They're funny. We're very sarcastic together, and it's a really nice environment because when we balance working hard and being serious during golf and joking around afterwards.
KSUOWLS.com: What motivates you on the course?
Meva Schmit: My teammates and my coach, they always motivate me, and I want to do better for them. I get extra practice in because I want to do well for the team.
KSUOWLS.com: What are you looking forward to this upcoming golf season?
Meva Schmit: I can't wait to compete with my team and win more tournaments to hopefully bring home that championship ring. I had a better spring season than I did last fall, so seeing my game thread in the right direction is very promising.
KSUOWLS.com: How does playing golf in Indonesia differ from playing in the United States?
Meva Schmit: Since I played individually back home, I didn't have teammates like I do in Kennesaw, so having someone to lean on if I'm not having the best day is always nice. Having teammates help relieve some of the pressure of playing golf, and my coach always assures me of that. I want to be the teammate that others can come to if they are having a tough time.
Schmit and the Owls finished in second place in the ASUN Championship in 2022.
