KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior third baseman
Taylor Cates was selected to the 2022 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic teams, the conference announced Monday.
She started all 47 games for the Owls during the regular season and set the KSU single-season home run record with 17. She also set the KSU single-season record with five sacrifice flies and is on-pace to set the mark for best slugging percentage (.860).
Cates led the team in batting average (.406), OPS (1.311), runs (37), hits (58), doubles (14), home runs (17), RBI (43), total bases (123), slugging percentage (.860) and on-base percentage (.451). She tied for the team lead with 10 stolen bases.
Her batting average, home run and slugging percentage totals led the conference. Cates earned ASUN All-Conference first team honors in 2021 as well.
In conference play, the Canton, Ga. native batted .408 with 29 hits, six doubles, nine homers and 25 RBI in 24 games. Her slugging percentage (.873) and OPS (1.337) led the team.
In the classroom, she had a 3.92 cumulative GPA as an elementary education major. This marks her second consecutive ASUN All-Academic team selection.
The No. 6 Owls begin ASUN tournament play Tuesday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. against the No. 7 Stetson Hatters.
