ATHENS, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball's early lead was not enough as the team fell to No. 16 Georgia by a score of 10-7 on Tuesday night at Foley Field. With the loss, the Owls (26-19) move to 0-2 on the season against the Bulldogs (31-14).
KSU got off to an early start and scored seven runs in the first three innings. The advantage held into the sixth, until UGA scored three runs and jumped ahead, 9-7. The Dawgs added one final run in the eighth that pushed the score to 10-7 which held as the final.
Offensively, Kennesaw State outhit Georgia 12-11. The team had eight-of-nine starters record at least one while four contributed multi-hit performances.
In his third at-bat, Josh Hatcher reached a career milestone as he registered career hit number 200. The senior tallied 126 during his time at Mississippi State and has posted 74 this season. He finished the game 1-for-5.
The 2, 3, 4 lineup combo of Tyler Simon, Zac Corbin and Donovan Cash produced one half of the team's hits in the contest. Each member of the trio went 2-for-5 and all three scored at least one run.
Spencer Hanson continued his hot streak with a 2-for-4 performance. The outfielder posted his seventh multi-hit game on the year and scored one run for the Owls.
Cash Young, Hudson Mimbs and Brayden Eidson all posted a base knock for the KSU offense. Young and Mimbs each scored and drove in one run, while Eidson posted an RBI.
Nick Hassan did not record a hit in the game, but he led the Owls with 2 RBI.
Freshman Miller Riggins was a bright spot out of the KSU bullpen. The southpaw tossed a clean inning and registered one strikeout. Riggins has not allowed an earned run in his last three outings. Â
