KENNESAW, Ga. – Another postseason honor for third baseman
Taylor Cates, as the senior was named to the NFCA Division I Central Region Second Team on Thursday.
Cates started all 51 games for the Owls this season and set the KSU Division I single-season home run record with 19. She also set the KSU single-season records for slugging percentage (.847), total bases (133) and sacrifice flies (5).
She led the team in batting average (.389), OPS (1.280), runs (40), hits (61), doubles (15), home runs (19), RBI (48), total bases (133), slugging percentage (.847) and on-base percentage (.433). She tied for the team lead with 11 stolen bases.
This marks her fourth 2022 postseason honor, having earned ASUN All-Conference First Team and All-Academic team selections. She was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball First Team last week.
The Owls posted a 23-28 record this season, including wins in 11 of their final 14 games. KSU remains the only NCAA Division I softball program of 30 years or more in the state of Georgia that has won at least 20 games every season.
