Owls Soar to Jacksonville for ASUN Outdoor Championships

THE START LINE
The Kennesaw State track and field teams are set to compete at the ASUN Conference Outdoor Championships at the Liberty Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Jacksonville, Fla. May. 12-14.

The men's team will be looking to collect its 10th conference title while the women will look to add their third to the trophy case.

The meet will start Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the decathlon 100-meter dash. It will finish Saturday around 4 p.m. with the women's 4 x 400 relay.

Men's Field: Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb and North Florida
Women's Field: Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb and North Florida

LAST TEAM INDOOR MEET
KSU wrapped up the regular season at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial. The Owls won one event and had several solid performances in the meet.
  
NEXT UP
Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective event earn a berth into the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. In addition, the best 24 relays times advance to the NCAA preliminaries. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The decathlon and heptathlon will not be held during the NCAA Preliminary Rounds. Instead, the top 24 decathlon and heptathlon scores in the nation earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship site.

NEWS AND NOTES 
» The Owls have the top marks in the ASUN in five events on the men's side and four events on the women's side.

» The Owls have athletes ranked in the top 48 in eight events in the NCAA East Region this season.

» KSU enters the weekend ranked 11th (men) and 13th (women) in the NCAA South region.
 
» Sarah Hendrick earned ASUN Athlete of the Week honors for her performance at the Penn Relays.
 
» Hendrick ranks tied for first in the NCAA in the 800m with a time of 2:00.98. She ranks 24th in the 1500 with a time of 4:15.91.

» Jasmine Akins ranks 29th in the long jump with a mark of 6.27m (20'7").
 
» Courtney Lawrence ranks 20th in the NCAA in the shot put this season with a career-best mark of 19.26m (63'2.25").
 
» Anthony Harrison ranks 19th in the NCAA in the discus this season with a career-best mark of 58.86m (193'1").
