ATHENS, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team sits in ninth place after the opening round of the ASUN Championship at the UGA Golf Course on Sunday.
KSU carded an 18-over par 302 in round one. The Owls sit just eight shots behind No. 36 Liberty for fifth place.
"The golf course was playing tough today and a perfect opportunity for us through the front nine," head coach
Bryant Odom. "We let the back nine get away a little but with two rounds to go I know we can get some shots back and still have a solid finish."
Brock Healy guided the Owls with a 3-over par 74. The senior rolled in 11 pars and two birdies in his opening round. He is tied for 19
th.
Lucas Mota carded a 4-over 75 and is tied for 26
th. The junior led the Owls with 12 pars in his opening round.
Takafumi Shimoji returned to the lineup and posted a 5-over 76.
Justin Kim (77) and
Joseph Byrne (78) are tied for 39
th and 44
th respectively.
Stat of the Day
The Owls finished the day tied for third in the field with 55 pars as a team.
KSU will be paired with Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville in round two on Monday, April 25.
