KSU Secures Series Over JU, 12-7

Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball earned the series victory over Jacksonville with a 12-7 win on Sunday afternoon inside Stillwell Stadium. With the win, the Owls (24-15, 13-5 ASUN Conference) secured five-of-six regular season contests over the Dolphins (20-17, 6-12 ASUN).

Nathan Holler (4-4) earned the win in the series finale. The right-hander came on in relief and recorded two outs in the fifth inning to get KSU out of a jam.

Smith Pinson entered in the sixth and tossed the remainder of the game. Pinson earned a four-inning save to record his second on the season. The right-hander surrendered two runs on four hits and punched out three.

The Kennesaw State offense had eight players that compiled 15 hits. Two Owls added multi-hit performances while eight scored at least one run.

Josh Hatcher led the way with a 4-for-5 afternoon. The center fielder registered a double, two RBI and scored four runs. Today's contest marked the fifth time this season Hatcher has posted four-or-more hits in a single game.

Spencer Hanson recorded a season-high three hits in a stellar day at the plate. The designated hitter drove in two runs and scored one. He ended the afternoon 3-for-4.

Tyler Simon added a 2-for-5 afternoon with one RBI. The KSU shortstop finished the series with five hits, five RBI and four runs scored.

Donovan Cash, Zac Corbin, Nick Colina and Nick Hassan all added hits in the game. All four scored at least one run in the series finale.

Jacksonville held a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third. Colina led off with a single and advanced to third on base knock from Hanson. Jones came through with a fielder's choice that tied the game and left a runner on second.

As the lineup turned over, Hatcher laced the first pitch of his at-bat down the right field line to put KSU ahead. Simon followed with a line drive up the middle to score Hatcher and extend the lead to 3-1.

JU bounced back with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 5-3 advantage, but the Owls did not back down. In the bottom of the fifth, KSU scored four runs on three hits, one walk and one hit by pitch.

Hatcher led off the frame with a single and came around to score on a double from Cash. On the next play, KSU tied the game due to an error by the Jacksonville first baseman. With two outs in the inning, Hanson slashed a ground ball back up the middle to bring in two and put Kennesaw State ahead 7-5.

The Owls padded their lead in the sixth with two more runs. Nick Hassan started the rally with a pinch-hit, leadoff double down the left field line. A wild pitch moved him to third before Hatcher tallied his third hit of the contest with a single to left center. He came around to score two batters later on a fielder's choice.

Kennesaw State added three runs in the eighth to increase the lead to 12-7. The score marked the ninth time this year the team has scored 10-or-more runs.

KSU is back in action for a two-game midweek series at Georgia Southern beginning on Wednesday, April 26. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. inside J.I. Clements Stadium and will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
