Kennesaw, Ga. – Four members of the Kennesaw State men's tennis program collected ASUN honors, the conference announced on Thursday.

Matt Emery was named ASUN Coach of the Year, Raul Garcia and Matthew Terry collected ASUN First Team All-Conference honors and Hugo Salmeron was named to the All-Freshmen team.

Emery guided the Owls to a 15-5 record during the regular season. The Owls were 7-1 in ASUN play and earned a share of the ASUN regular season championship for the first time in program history. The team set the school record for most wins in a season (15), road wins (8) and conference wins (7). The Owls knocked off UNC Asheville, Furman and Liberty for the first time in program history this season. KSU earned national ranks three times during the season and finished the season ranked No. 75.

"I'm very appreciative of this honor but this award really belongs to these guys who have busted their butts all season long," Emery said. "I also could not be more grateful for our assistant coaches and support staff, who have made it an absolute blast to come into work every day."

Garcia went 13-4 in singles action and his 13 wins tied for second on the team this season. He played primarily at No. 2, where he posted a 12-2 record. He accrued a 7-1 singles record in conference play. The sophomore took down Jamie Connel (16-5) of Furman in straight sets by a score of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1.  He picked up key ASUN wins over Josh Wilson (Liberty), Nilo Duarte (UNF) and Marcelo Sepulveda (FGCU). The Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia native went on a five-match win streak during non-conference play and a six-match win streak to close conference play. He was 12-2 in doubles with two partners and posted an 8-1 record in doubles play teaming with Harvey Conway. He posted a 6-0 record against ASUN opponents and went 4-1 with Salmeron as his partner in non-conference action. Garcia was named ASUN Player of the Week on April 12.

Terry finished the season with a 13-2 record singles and a 5-2 record against the ASUN, all at No. 1. His 13 wins at No. 1 were third-most in the ASUN this season. He opened the season with nine consecutive wins and beat the top player in singles from Georgia State, Coastal Carolina and Liberty among others during that span. The Alpharetta, Ga. native posted a record of 6-6 in doubles with two different partners including a 6-3 record with Salmeron.

"Matt and Raul embody everything a student-athlete should be about," Emery said. "They are receiving this award because of their athletic accomplishments, but their impact on this program has been much greater than just that. These two guys are two of the most fearless, confident competitors I've ever coached and they are incredible ambassadors of KSU in all aspects of the word."

Salmeron led the Owls with a 14-3 record in singles and posted a 6-2 record in ASUN play. He collected key singles wins over Liberty, UNF and Stetson. The freshman was 5-0 at No. 5 and 9-3 at No. 6. He was the only player in the ASUN to go 5-0 at No. 5 and his nine wins on court six rank second in the ASUN this season. He had an 11-match win streak in singles play, went 10-4 in doubles with two partners. Salmeron posted a 6-3 record with Terry at No. 1 and No. 2 and 4-1 with Garcia at No. 2.

"Hugo has done a phenomenal job in his freshman season," Emery said. "He is a very hard worker and is going to keep getting better and better each year. He has done about everything a coach could possibly ask for as a freshman."
