KENNESAW, Ga. –
Brinaya Bailey came through in the clutch as the Kennesaw State softball team (11-19, 3-5 ASUN Conference) split a doubleheader Saturday against the Lipscomb Bisons (14-20, 4-4 ASUN).
Bailey hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to score
Cheyanne Sales and lift the Owls to a 6-5 victory in game one.
Game One (W, 6-5)
After no score in the opening frame, freshman
Ty Hardeman hit a triple to deep center to score
Kiera Cooper and give the Owls an early 1-0 lead.
The Bisons plated three runs in the top of the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead over KSU.
Cooper crossed home plate again in the bottom of the fourth after an error by the Lipscomb defense. The next Owl hitter,
Katie Greep, doubled to left center to score two and cut the deficit to 5-4.
Three innings later,
Pacy Villa tied the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer to left center.
Bailey's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth sealed a 6-5 win for the Black and Gold.
Melanie Bennett (8-8) pitched 4.2 innings of relief and earned the victory.
GAME NOTES
>> Hardeman's triple in the second inning was the second by an Owl this season (Alexander on March 19 vs. Jacksonville State).
>> Greep's two RBI in the fourth inning marked her third straight game with an RBI.
>> Cates extended her hitting streak to four games in the first game Saturday.
>> Cooper pushed her hitting streak out to three games in game one.
Game Two (L, 4-1)
A sacrifice fly by
Madison Miller in the bottom of the second gave the Owls a 1-0 lead, plating Villa from third.
The Bisons scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
The Owl offense did not tally another run for the remainder of the game.
Emily Perrin (2-4) pitched 2.2 innings and was credited with the loss.
GAME NOTES
>> Alexander has hit safely in four of her last five games.
>> Miller and
Isabella Galloway are tied for the team lead in hits among freshmen with 12.
>> Bailey had a base hit in both games Saturday.

KSU goes for the series win as the three-game set concludes against the Bisons on Sunday, April 3 at 12:00 p.m.
